Jack's Bed

My love for children's rooms strikes again with this easy upgrade to a 4-year old's toddler room. HIs room to start with was pretty dark, and with only one window in a tiny room, we really needed to find a way to bring some more light to the room while staying in the color pallet that his mom really likes. We painted three of the walls a light gray, and left the navy wall (Sherwin Williams, Distance) as an accent wall where the window is located.

BEFORE

His nursery furniture was from Pottery Barn and his mother wanted to keep the dresser.  We switched out his crib-turned-toddler bed for a big boy twin in the same finish as the dresser- Sun Valley Espresso. We also got him a trundle bed for when he starts having fun sleepovers with his buddies. We kept a lot of the same decor- floating shelves, pictures, and name letters.  But we got him some new bedding, complete with train sheets, and a few other items to help brighten up and organize this room.

Jack's new railroad crossing lamp is a favorite of his- especially because it lights up with flashing red lights on the bottom. His cute little side table adds a little bit of modern to this otherwise traditional room, and the gray brings a surprising contrast to all the wood.

We kept his original floating shelves, but moved their location to create more of a display area for Jack's favorite things.

Bookshelves

These wall hooks from Pottery Barn gave us a run for our money- but they bring a fun element to the space, as well as practical. A great place for Jack to hang up his backpack or sweatshirt, they also help him practice keeping things off the floor. We staggered them at different heights so he can reach them now but they won't be too short as he gets older.

That Pillowfort basket from Target is so fantastic and adds some texture to the room. I might have to grab one of those for Baby H's nursery that I will be getting started on soon.

We also got him some new linen blackout curtains from Pottery Barn. I love how the cotton/linen blend adds another layer of soft texture to the room and helps to make the darker accent wall feel not so heavy.

Overall, this was a quick and relatively easy upgrade that was completed, believe it or not, on time! That like, never happens. Together, Jack's mother and I created a space that Jack loves now but will grow with him throughout his childhood days.
