7 Perfect Mother's Day Activities that are Absolutely Free

Stuck on what to do for your mom or your wife this Mother's Day? It doesn't need to be difficult. Or expensive. Sometimes the sweetest ways to appreciate the moms in your life are completely free, but full of love.

Tea time

1. The classic- Breakfast in bed.

Some coffee, juice, eggs and toast, and a small vase of fresh flowers will truly knock her off her feet (even though..she will already be laying down...). And if you can wake up before the kids and don't mind spending a few dollars, go out and get her favorite coffee drink from the local coffee shop.

2. Mother's Day Brunch

This is one we usually do at my mother's house. We usually have the whole family over and my parents make a big breakfast for us. My uncles will contribute to the meal with pastries, juices, or casseroles. The best part is, the men handle ALL the clean-up while the moms sit outside and sip on our coffee.

3. A Mother's Day Picnic

How sweet would it be for a husband to plan this? Remember all those pretty things you registered for when you got married? Chances are there's a pretty tea set or china that you never use or even a picnic basket that has been hiding away somewhere in your house. Pull out those treasures you already own and make your wife feel like you actually KNOW where things are in your house!

* If you are in need of a picnic basket, this one is stinking adorable.

4. Dine al fresco.

Depending on where you live, you might have beautiful weather during this time of May. Make the most of it by setting up a table outside for brunch or dinner. Light some tiki torches, open a bottle of wine, and let the kids play while you two relax and enjoy the sweeter things in life.

5. Clean the house

Like, really clean. This could be done on Mother's Day, or better yet, the day before. That way, Mom can relax in a clean house on her day. For those men out there that don't know this already, a clean house really DOES help us relax. I don't know why. It's science.

6. Homemade cards

These always touch our hearts. It doesn't matter how sloppy or simple they are. A gift from the heart always melts ours.

7. Give her time for a nice, long bath

Maybe even light a candle or two so she can truly relax. One of my favorite presents my husband ever got me was aromatherapy bubble bath like this. If you're really wanting to "wow" her, you could clean up the bathroom and hide the tub toys before she jumps in. Trust me, she'll think she stepped into a spa.

Bottom line- Mother's Day does not need expensive gifts or fancy restaurants. As most moms will tell you, it's the little things in life that we really enjoy. Seeing our husbands play with our kids, hearing "I love you" and "Thank you," and not having to do the dishes. Those things are basically guaranteed to put a smile on our faces. Moms do a ridiculous amount for the well-being of their families. So appreciate them today, and every day. Happy Mother's Day!
