Closet Capsule Recap - My True Thoughts

Well, I made it to the end of the month! I definitely formed some more opinions about the concept of closet capsules and can't wait to share my thoughts with you.

Let's start with the pros...

1. I definitely spent less money during the 30 days. I didn't buy any clothes for myself and buying anything else seemed kinda silly as well.

2. It was ridiculously easy to pick out clothes in the morning. It became less of a decision-making process and more of just pulling out the piece I needed for the weather of that day.

3. It made putting my clothes AWAY much easier. Every piece had a hanger to go with it and since there was literally nothing else in my closet, there was no cramming and shoving when I went to hang things up.

Now the cons....

1. First of all, I learned from others who do closet capsules that April is considered a "transition month." It's the time when even experienced closet capsulers are in between wardrobes, and usually are using more than their set 30 pieces since the weather is so all-over-the-place. We literally had days of high 80's followed by days of high 50's. It was tough. I definitely felt like I was ill-equipped for the super hot days. 2. I also learned from the experienced closet capsulers that lounging-at-home attire doesn't need to count in your capsule. There were a few days where all I wanted was to be warm and cozy in my sweatshirt and sweatpants. I didn't have to go anywhere other than maybe Wawa or the food store, and I didn't feel like wearing a legit "outfit."

3. I think if I were to do this for real, I would make my work-out clothes not count in the capsule. I go through too many and I only want to wear them when I'm working out- not all day as my outfit.

And finally....

4. I got bored. Like really bored. Like by April 27th, I wanted to throw up all over my closet capsule. I can't even look at those clothes anymore- and they were most of my favorites. I will wear them again, but we need a break- a long one.

So here is the proof- or at least some of it. In addition to starting to hate my wardrobe, I REALLY hated taking selfies of my outfits every day haha. I will admit, through embarrassment, that I did not finish the month. I stopped wearing the capsule clothes as of April 28th. I made it further than my husband thought I would. But I could not go on.

days 14-16

Easter Weekend- this weekend had lows in the 60s and highs in the 80s! Easter Sunday (Day 16) was absolutely beautiful.

Days 17-20

Why do I look miserable in all of these pictures? And again, I have no shoes on. I skipped a few days here. Some of them I didn't cheat, I just didn't take a picture. Others I was in lounge-around-the-house attire.

days 23-24

After this, I clearly gave up. Would I do this again? Maybe. But I'd need more than 30 pieces. I really like the idea of living with less, and I will certainly not be putting back all of my clothes from before. I just need a little bit more flexibility with my wardrobe. So to all of you amazing people out there who create these closet capsules each season, you are my hero. I commend you. And to those of you who are thinking about doing this yourself, my suggestion is to be easy on yourself. Live with less, but don't make it so rigid. And don't take selfies everyday. Good luck!
